Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered about 1,000 stolen cattle after a gunfight with armed bandits in Taraba and Plateau states.
The soldiers, from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Operation Whirl Stroke, worked with personnel from Operation Safe Haven to carry out the raid. The operation was based on a tip-off about bandits who had attacked a Fulani community near Jebjeb village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The armed group, riding about 30 motorcycles, had crossed from Plateau into Taraba and stolen hundreds of cows.
The joint forces chased the bandits to Komodoro village in Karim Lamido and later tracked them into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State, where a gun battle took place.

Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, said, “The troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gunfight and succeeded in neutralising two of them. We also recovered about 1,000 cattle.”
The army returned the stolen cows to the Jebjeb community, where residents are now identifying their animals.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the teamwork between the military units. He promised that the army would continue to go after criminal gangs threatening peace in the region.
“We will not stop until we rid our communities of bandits,” Uwa said.
