The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected claims that its leadership has been dissolved and replaced with a caretaker committee led by allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ebiye Ogoli, described the reports of a leadership change as “false and misleading.”
This came after the South-South Zonal Working Committee of the PDP, led by Dan Orbih, announced the dissolution of the Bayelsa and Edo state PDP executives. The committee cited allegations of misconduct and poor performance.
As part of the shake-up, the zonal leadership appointed George Turnah, a known ally of Wike, as chairman of a new caretaker committee in Bayelsa.
However, Ogoli said the zonal executive no longer had the authority to make such decisions. “The tenure of the zonal executive expired on March 13, 2025,” he said.

He added that the PDP National Working Committee had already appointed a caretaker committee led by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to manage the South-South zone until a new congress is held.
“We place on record that the zonal exco of the party, even if properly constituted, still lacks the constitutional powers to dissolve a state working committee,” Ogoli said.
He also pointed out that the appointment of Turnah was premature, as his suspension case was still pending in a Bayelsa State High Court.
Ogoli called on party members to ignore what he described as an illegal move aimed at destabilizing the party in the state. He urged them to remain united and continue supporting Governor Douye Diri.
He said, “2027 is still a few years away, and we must not allow these distractions to divert our attention. Our duty is to continue supporting our governor, who has shown true patriotism and dedication to our state.”
The Bayelsa PDP reaffirmed its loyalty to the current leadership and insisted that no valid change had taken place.
