The Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area in Kogi State, Amoka Monday, has declared a curfew across the council area, citing security concerns ahead of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s planned visit to her constituency.
The curfew follows the Kogi State Government’s recent ban on political rallies and unregulated public gatherings. It is part of broader efforts to maintain peace and prevent any security threats that may arise from the senator’s visit.
In a statement personally signed by the chairman on Monday, he announced that the curfew would take immediate effect and restrict movement and gatherings in designated areas.
“Anyone found loitering or assembling in restricted zones without clearance from the relevant authorities will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement read.
Monday stressed that the security and stability of residents remain his administration’s top priority. He warned that any actions capable of disturbing public peace would not be tolerated.
“The safety of our people is paramount. We will not allow any situation that could jeopardize the peace and stability of our communities,” he added.
The chairman explained that the decision to impose the curfew was a proactive measure to prevent any potential security breaches.
