Actress Amusa Defends Asake, Says ‘A Child Needs Love, Not Rejection’

Asake

Popular Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa, has spoken out in support of Afrobeats star Asake, following the controversy surrounding his alleged neglect of his ailing father, Fatai Odunsi. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, Amusa emphasized the importance of parental love and suggested that childhood wounds cannot be healed by fame or wealth.

“When Asake covered his face in tattoos, I once remarked that he was either rebranding or masking a pain he wasn’t ready to confront,” Amusa wrote. She added that while some claim Asake’s father was absent and his mother was harsh, she would not judge either parent. Instead, she stressed that, “What matters is that Asake deserves love, not a public spectacle.”

‘Fame Doesn’t Heal Childhood Wounds’

Amusa further reflected on the impact of childhood rejection, stating that children raised with love grow into adults who navigate life differently from those who experience abandonment.

“Fame doesn’t heal the wounds of parental rejection. A child raised on ‘I love you’ moves through life differently than one who hears, ‘I want nothing to do with you.’ Some wounds money cannot fix—only deep, intentional healing can,” she wrote.

She urged parents to be present in their children’s lives, cautioning that the foundation laid in childhood significantly affects their future. “A child who feels truly seen and loved at home has less to prove to the world. As a victim of such circumstances, I can relate. I wish him well,” she said.

Asake’s Father Begs for Help

The controversy began after a video surfaced online showing Asake’s father, Fatai Odunsi, appealing for financial assistance. The elderly man, who claims he has been battling a stroke since 2022, accused Asake of ignoring him despite his deteriorating health.

In the video, a woman pleaded on Odunsi’s behalf, saying, “I am begging you, Ololade Mr Money, come and do the needful. Please take care of your father.” The family suggested that if Asake did not want a direct relationship with his father, he could at least buy him a house worth ₦50 million so he could live off the rent.

Asake Responds to Allegations

Amid growing public criticism, Asake responded in a cryptic but emotional TikTok video, singing in Yoruba about his struggles.

“You can’t please everyone, you can’t please the world. But anything you are doing, just do it for God,” he sang.

He also hinted at a strained relationship with his father, adding, “My own father wants to cajole me, and I have sent so much money to him. I have struggled for so many years, but they want to make life tire me.”

The singer did not directly confirm or deny the claims but seemed to express frustration over family pressures.

Family Accuses Asake of Neglecting Daughter

As the controversy deepened, Asake’s family also accused him of abandoning his 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat, and her mother. They claimed they were willing to conduct a DNA test to prove the girl’s paternity.

The family’s public appeal has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some sympathized with Odunsi, believing Asake should take care of his father regardless of past grievances.

One X user, @SarahOmo, wrote, “Asake’s response is so hurtful. His father may have made mistakes, but he’s still his dad.”

Others suggested alternative ways for Asake to assist. @ecomohh said, “Asake is super rich now; he should place his dad on a salary or open a business for him that will sustain him more than buying a car he won’t be able to manage.”

However, some people defended Asake, arguing that his family was trying to take advantage of his success. @TSNAB tweeted, “If I was Asake, I would never go close to those leeches. A dad who abandoned me is nothing but a stranger.”

Asake Agrees to Support Father

Despite the drama, a close associate of the family, Sheriffdeen Olorunfemi, revealed on Facebook that Asake had accepted responsibility for his father’s medical bills and other necessary expenses.

“He accepted responsibility for his mistakes, and Pupsy will be taken to Lekki Hospital next week! He agreed to do whatever it takes for Pupsy,” Olorunfemi wrote.

As of the time of this report, Asake’s management has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations. Messages sent to his team via SMS and WhatsApp have gone unanswered.

With the debate still ongoing, many are left wondering whether this family dispute will be resolved privately or continue to play out in the public eye.
