Lagos State Police have uncovered the shallow grave where Adedamola Ogunbode, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, was buried. This discovery followed the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, who had been on the run.
The police confirmed that Ajisomo, who was rumored to have fled to the Benin Republic, was arrested on Monday in the Alakuko area of Lagos. He then led detectives to the burial site.
Speaking to journalists, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested yesterday (Monday) morning in the Alakuko area. He was the one who cleared the victim’s bank account through the victim’s mobile phone.”
Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025. There were earlier speculations that his mutilated body had been found, but the police only confirmed his burial site on Tuesday.
Arrests and Investigation
Last Friday, the police announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder. Among them was a pastor, Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received ₦70,000 from Ogunbode’s bank account. Another suspect, Sheriff Adebayo, a church member, was accused of receiving ₦300,000.
The mother of the prime suspect, Omolara Ajisomo, was also arrested. She allegedly helped her children, Olaoluwa and Teniola Ajisomo, escape after each received ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.
Following the arrests, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. This decision came after students’ union leaders threatened a statewide protest demanding justice for Ogunbode.

Police Seal Off Church Over Arson Threat
There were speculations that Ogunbode’s body was buried within church premises linked to one of the suspects. However, Hundeyin dismissed these claims.
“The shallow grave is not around the church premises, but it is there in the community,” he clarified.
He also revealed that the police had sealed off the church where the arrested pastor worshipped. “We received intelligence reports that some people were planning to burn down the church out of vengeance. We do not want that to happen,” he said.
Ogunbode’s Body Set to Be Exhumed
Meanwhile, sources involved in the investigation said that Ajisomo had confessed to the killing and was assisting the police in locating the exact burial site.
“I just received information that the newly arrested suspect has confessed to killing the LASU graduate, and the police are on their way to the burial site,” a police source disclosed.
When journalists contacted Hundeyin for confirmation, he responded with a single word: “Confirmed.”
With the prime suspect now in custody, police investigations continue as they search for the remaining five suspects linked to the crime.
