An 18-year-old Indian teenager, Lalit Patidar, has made history by setting a Guinness World Record for having the hairiest face on a person. Patidar, who has a rare condition called hypertrichosis—also known as “werewolf syndrome”—has an astonishing 201.72 hairs per square centimeter on his face. More than 95% of his face is covered in thick hair.
Hypertrichosis is an extremely rare condition that causes excessive hair growth all over the body. Only around 50 documented cases have been reported worldwide since the Middle Ages, making Patidar’s case unique.
Overcoming Stares and Ridicule
Patidar, who hails from India, has faced many challenges due to his appearance. As a child, he was often stared at, ridiculed, and even feared by other kids at school. However, he refused to let the negativity affect him.
Patidar recalled, “They were scared of me. But when they started knowing me and talking to me, they understood I was not so different from them. It was just on the outside that I looked different, but I’m not different inside.”
Despite the stares and cruel comments, Patidar remained confident. He has learned to embrace his condition, turning what could have been a source of insecurity into a symbol of resilience and self-acceptance.
According to Guinness World Records, Patidar’s story is one of determination. “Lalit is one in a BILLION,” the official website stated. “He has overcome all of the stares from strangers and nasty comments you’d sadly imagine he would have received. The other kids at school were even scared of him when he showed up for his first day.”

Setting the World Record
Patidar’s journey to becoming a Guinness World Record holder was sealed when he appeared on the Italian television show Lo Show dei Record. There, his facial hair was officially measured to confirm his achievement.
His recognition by Guinness World Records has brought global attention to hypertrichosis and the importance of embracing uniqueness.
Patidar hopes his story will inspire others who feel different to embrace their individuality. “I want to tell people to accept themselves as they are. Everyone is unique in their own way,” he said.
While there is no known cure for hypertrichosis, Patidar has chosen to focus on his dreams and personal growth rather than dwell on his condition. His story is a powerful reminder that confidence and self-acceptance can turn challenges into triumphs.
