Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dismissed rumors that five of their members are backing a possible Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, made this clear in a statement issued on his behalf by the forum’s Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, on Saturday.
Mohammed strongly denied the reports, calling them “unpleasant and provoking publications” spread by individuals seeking to cause division within the party. He accused these forces of attempting to weaken the PDP through misinformation and political manipulation.
“These rumors are being peddled by negative forces who cannot accept that our Forum is questioning their failed leadership. Their economic policies have brought nothing but poverty and hardship to Nigerians,” Mohammed stated.
He further alleged that those behind the rumors were deliberately trying to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party system on the country.
“They have moved from financing factions within our party to directly targeting the PDP Governors. Their goal is to split the opposition, cripple democratic institutions, and enforce dictatorship,” he said.
The statement made it clear that the PDP Governors’ Forum has not discussed or supported any plans for an El-Rufai/Obi ticket. “The PDP Governors’ Forum is not in agreement with these actors. We are not part of any negotiations to sell out the PDP to individuals who have no stake in our party,” Mohammed declared.

He emphasized that PDP governors remain focused on governance and improving the lives of Nigerians despite economic challenges. He said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) feels threatened by their performance and is resorting to spreading false information.
“These mischief-makers are only intimidated by the way PDP governors are working hard to ease the suffering of Nigerians. They have nothing else to do but throw mud at our good work,” he said.

Mohammed assured Nigerians that PDP governors will stand by the party’s principles of equity, social justice, accountability, and democratic values. He promised that in 2027, they would fully support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.
“Our mission remains clear. We will not allow ‘Enemies of Progress’ and ‘Agents of Confusion’ to deceive Nigerians. Our commitment is to a fair and democratic electoral process that will bring real change,” he concluded.
The PDP Governors’ Forum vowed to continue working towards party unity and ensuring that the PDP is prepared to challenge the APC in the next general election.
