AI-powered chatbot Perplexity has introduced a new Deep Research tool, designed to fetch information from hundreds of sources and generate detailed reports in minutes. The tool, now available for free to logged-in web users, aims to help professionals in fields like finance, marketing, and technology by providing expert-level research capabilities.
Perplexity follows in the footsteps of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, which launched similar tools in recent months. “Our Deep Research tool is built to autonomously deliver comprehensive reports,” the company said in a blog post announcing the feature.
How the Tool Works
Users can access Deep Research by visiting perplexity.ai, selecting the feature from the drop-down menu in the chat box, and entering their query. The AI then reviews various sources, refines its research plan, and compiles a report within two to four minutes.
Once the report is ready, users can download it as a PDF/document or convert it into a shareable Perplexity page. This functionality makes it easier to distribute research findings efficiently.

Accuracy and Performance
Perplexity’s Deep Research tool has already been evaluated on Humanity’s Last Exam, a benchmark that tests the reasoning abilities of AI models. It scored second place with an accuracy of 26.6%, trailing only OpenAI’s Deep Research. In comparison, DeepSeek R1, Gemini, and Grok-2 scored 8.6%, 7.2%, and 3.9%, respectively.
These results suggest that Perplexity’s AI is a strong contender in the AI research space, capable of outperforming major competitors like Google’s Gemini.
Availability and Pricing
For now, Perplexity’s Deep Research tool is free for all logged-in web users. However, it will soon expand to iOS, Android, and Mac devices. While free users will have a limited number of queries per day, Perplexity Pro subscribers will enjoy unlimited access to the tool.
This latest development underscores the growing competition among AI-powered chatbots, as companies race to provide the most accurate and efficient research capabilities.
