A 94-year-old Nigerian man, Adedapo Idowu, has registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with the goal of fulfilling his lifelong dream of studying Political Science at the University of Ibadan.
Idowu completed his registration at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State. He expressed his excitement about the smooth registration process, saying that his initial fears about pursuing higher education at his age had been put to rest.
“I can now attain my dream at an advanced age,” Idowu said. “The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the registration venue.”

UTME Registration Progress
The 2025 UTME registration, which began on January 31, has seen a large turnout of candidates. JAMB recently announced that over 700,000 applicants had already registered, including 11,000 underage candidates.
Despite being one of the oldest candidates to ever register for the UTME, Idowu successfully completed the process without difficulties. He praised JAMB for its efficient use of technology, particularly the integration of the National Identity Number (NIN), which made data collection easier and ensured a smooth experience.
Encouraging Others to Pursue Education
Idowu encouraged young and old candidates alike to embrace their academic journey with professionalism and determination. He also advised JAMB to continue improving access to education for all Nigerians, especially the elderly, the underprivileged, and people with disabilities.
His story was highlighted in the latest bulletin of JAMB, drawing admiration from many Nigerians. Many see his determination as an inspiration, proving that it is never too late to chase one’s dreams.
As he prepares for the 2025 UTME, Idowu hopes to score high enough to secure admission into the University of Ibadan and finally achieve his long-standing ambition of studying Political Science.
