Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted to being declared wanted by the police for allegedly assaulting government officials in Ogun State. In a series of Instagram rants on Tuesday, the singer claimed he was being targeted unfairly and insisted that he is mentally ill and receiving treatment at Aro Psychiatric Hospital.
“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I’m a madman; I have medications that I usually take,” Portable said. “You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients.”
Police Declare Portable Wanted
The Ogun State Police Command recently issued a special police gazette bulletin declaring Portable wanted. According to the bulletin, the singer was involved in “a violent attack on government officials carrying out their lawful duties.” The incident allegedly involved officers from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA), who were reportedly assaulted while performing their official work.
Portable, however, claimed that the police action was a setup against him for wearing a vest featuring the image of Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi.

Nine Associates Arraigned for Assault
Meanwhile, nine of Portable’s associates were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on February 6. They were accused of assaulting officers of the Ota Zonal Planning Office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The defendants—Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Samuel Adeleke, 28; Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Fatimo Muhammed, 26—were charged with five counts, including felony, assault, possession of weapons such as cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
They all pleaded not guilty. The court granted them bail at N5 million each, with sureties who are licensed bond agents registered with the Ogun State government. The case was adjourned until March 17 for further hearing.
Public Reactions and Controversy
Portable’s claim of mental illness has sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning whether it is a genuine condition or an attempt to evade arrest. Others have criticized the singer for his history of erratic behavior and repeated run-ins with the law.
This is not the first time Portable has been involved in a controversy. He has been arrested in the past for various incidents, including assault and unruly behavior. Despite these controversies, he remains a popular figure in the Nigerian music industry, known for his energetic performances and street-inspired lyrics.
As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Portable will turn himself in or if the police will take further action to enforce his arrest.
