The Plateau State Government has completed 49 previously abandoned road projects within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis over the past 18 months.
The Commissioner for Works, Ubandoma Laven, announced this on Saturday during a press conference in Jos. He said the projects were rehabilitated and completed between September 2023 and now, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Laven stated, “Between September 2023 and now, this government has so far rehabilitated and completed 49 road projects within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.”
The announcement comes amid recent allegations made by House of Representatives member Yusuf Gagdi, who claimed that the federal government was funding 80 percent of ongoing projects in the state. Gagdi, who represents the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, made the allegations on national television last month. He also accused the state government of neglecting the people in his constituency.

In response, Laven dismissed Gagdi’s claims, explaining that the Mutfwang-led administration has evenly distributed the completed road projects across Jos and Bukuru. He emphasized that the government remains committed to finishing all abandoned projects before awarding new contracts.
Laven said, “The governor has vowed that all abandoned projects in the state will be completed, and no part of the state will be left behind. This government has not yet awarded any new road contract; the governor is determined to first complete all abandoned projects before commencing new ones.”
He further urged Gagdi to acknowledge and support the ongoing development efforts of the state government.
Laven added, “Our governor has laid a solid and lasting foundation for the state, and all he needs now is the prayers and support of Plateau people for him to succeed. So, I urge our brother, Gagdi, to concentrate on the business of lawmaking and allow the governor to concentrate on giving Plateau people the desired leadership.”
Despite Laven’s response, Gagdi stood by his earlier statements, reiterating during another press briefing on Friday that his allegations were his personal opinion.
The Plateau State Government maintains that its priority is to complete abandoned infrastructure projects to enhance the state’s road network and improve the quality of life for residents.
