In a bid to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation and equip its youth with cutting-edge telecommunications skills, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has signed a strategic partnership with Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed earlier this week by the Honorable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC.
Under this partnership, Nokia Nigeria will establish a fully equipped 5G/4G test lab at the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Digital Parks.
Nokia Nigeria would provide hands-on training opportunities for young Nigerians on the latest radio and transmission technologies.
Dr. Aminu Maida, via his X handle @Dr_AminuMaida, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This collaboration advances our vision to enhance the capacity and skills-set of Nigerians, by equipping them with contemporary skills and knowledge needed to adapt to the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry.”
Also, Nokia Nigeria will launch an Entrepreneur Learning Program in line with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy’s goal to drive digital literacy and build a pipeline of technical talents across Nigeria.
This initiative aims to deliver high-quality vocational training to 200 Nigerian students selected from across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Dr. Bosun Tijani emphasized the importance of such programs, stating, “We are committed to driving digital literacy and empowering our youth with the technical skills necessary to thrive in the digital age.”
The establishment of the 5G/4G test lab and the Entrepreneur Learning Program represents a significant step towards fostering innovation and building a skilled workforce capable of driving Nigeria’s digital future.
As Nigeria continues to position itself as a leading hub for technology and innovation in Africa, partnerships like these will play a crucial role in unlocking the country’s full potential in the digital economy.
