A man in Pakistan has confessed to killing his teenage daughter because she refused to stop posting TikTok videos and dress more modestly, police said on Thursday.
The suspect, a man in his 50s, had recently moved his family back to Pakistan from the United States. He shot his daughter earlier this week in their home in Quetta, a city in southwestern Pakistan.
Local police chief Babar Baloch confirmed the arrest, saying the father admitted to the crime.
“He confessed to having shot his daughter after she refused to follow his instructions regarding her dressing and social media activities,” Baloch said.
Authorities are treating the murder as an “honor killing,” a practice in which family members kill female relatives for actions they consider shameful.
Pakistan sees nearly 1,000 such killings every year, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP). In most cases, fathers, brothers, or sons kill women in their families under the pretext of protecting their family’s reputation.

Human rights groups say Pakistan’s laws have failed to stop these crimes. A controversial Islamic clause allows the victim’s family to pardon the killer, which often leads to the murderer walking free.
Amnesty International has criticized this legal loophole, calling it a major obstacle to justice. In 2016, Pakistan introduced a law to limit the use of family pardons in honor killing cases, but the HRCP says the practice remains widespread.
The teenage girl’s murder has once again sparked outrage among activists calling for stronger protections for women in Pakistan. Police say they will continue investigating the case and ensure the suspect faces justice.
