Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has called on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to alleged anti-party activities. Mohammed accused Wike of aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged him to formalize his ties with the party.
In a strongly-worded statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Bala Mohammed labeled Wike as a “transactional politician” and accused him of engaging in reckless and deceptive attacks against him and the PDP.
Governor Mohammed criticized Wike for his alleged attempts to tarnish his reputation and weaken the PDP for the benefit of the APC. He said, “Let Nyesom Wike be reminded that while he lives in a delusional self-created universe of seeing splits and factions in the PDP, the party is resolute and united, apart from a few turncoats and quislings led by him who are desperately committed to weakening it for the benefit of the APC.”
The governor, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, claimed Wike’s political influence is fading and accused him of betraying several political allies over the years, including Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.
In a counterstatement issued by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike fired back at Bala Mohammed, accusing him of being a “greedy politician” who lacks the capacity to lead effectively as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Olayinka criticized Mohammed for using Wike’s ministerial appointment under President Bola Tinubu as an excuse for his alleged leadership failures.

Governor Mohammed did not hold back in accusing Wike of a pattern of betrayal, alleging that the FCT Minister orchestrated the downfall of several PDP leaders, including former party chairmen Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu. He described Wike’s political style as a “use-and-dump” approach, blaming him for fueling internal crises within the PDP.
“Under Senator Bala Mohammed’s vibrant and visionary leadership, the PDP Governors’ Forum and the party’s core organs, including the BOT, are working quietly and assiduously in cleaning the party of Wike’s treachery and perfidy,” the statement read.
Governor Mohammed concluded his remarks by urging Wike to do the “honorable thing” and resign from the PDP, fully aligning himself with the APC, which he claimed Wike is already serving. “The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance. Let Wike reflect on his conduct and do the honorable thing: resign and align fully with the APC he so eagerly serves. Until then, his words will remain as hollow as his loyalty,” Mohammed stated.
The exchange between the two prominent politicians highlights the deepening divisions within the PDP, which has struggled with internal conflicts in recent years. While both leaders hold influential positions, their public clash underscores the challenges facing the opposition party as it seeks to rebuild and prepare for the 2027 elections.
