The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has intensified efforts to convince Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by the Forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the APC renewed its invitation to the governor, urging him to switch parties before the next APC congress and assume the position of the party’s leader in Plateau State.
The Forum praised Governor Mutfwang’s performance in office, stating that his achievements were the driving force behind the invitation. “This invitation is prompted by Governor Mutfwang’s good works and achievements in office,” the statement read.
The Forum argued that Mutfwang’s alignment with the APC would strengthen his relationship with President Bola Tinubu and ensure that Plateau State benefits from the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Joining the APC will allow Governor Mutfwang to join hands with Mr. President to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Plateau State. Having the governor of Plateau State as a member of the APC would ensure streamlined development of the entire North-Central region,” Zazzaga explained.

Previous Efforts to Woo Mutfwang
The statement also highlighted the Forum’s earlier attempts to bring Mutfwang into the APC. In April 2024, shortly after the Supreme Court upheld his election as governor, the Forum sent a formal letter inviting him to join the party. Additionally, in March 2024, the Forum held a closed-door meeting in Abuja with Plateau APC leaders to strategize on how to convince Mutfwang.
Despite these efforts, Mutfwang has remained with the PDP. The APC Forum expressed concerns about the ongoing crisis within the PDP and warned that the party’s internal turmoil could jeopardize Mutfwang’s political future.
“It is evident that the PDP is drowning as a result of a series of crises rocking the party. Governor Mutfwang should not wait to drown with the party,” the Forum stated, urging him to act swiftly.
A Strategic Move for Plateau State
The Forum emphasized that Plateau State is currently the only state in the North-Central geopolitical zone not governed by the APC. They argued that Mutfwang joining the APC would align the state with the federal government’s developmental agenda.
“After serious deliberations, the North-Central APC Forum agreed that Governor Mutfwang joining the APC is in the best interest of Plateau State and the entire North-Central region,” the statement read.
The Forum also reminded Mutfwang of the opportunity to take on a leadership role within the APC, positioning him as a key player in the state and the region.
