Barely a week after murdering two police officers, members of the Lakurawa terrorist group struck again, killing four people, including three workers of a leading telecommunication company, in Kebbi State.
The attack occurred at a construction site in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area, where the victims were installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The terrorists invaded the site, killing three staff members reportedly working for Airtel and one unidentified individual.
While the police identified the deceased as Airtel staff, locals claim they were employees of the NIS. A staff member from Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital, where the corpses were taken, insisted, “Three of the victims brought here were immigration staff.”
However, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the deaths and clarified that “four persons lost their lives, including one local resident and three Airtel staff.”
Upon receiving reports of the attack, Kebbi State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, along with the Comptroller of the NIS in the state, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, mobilized security personnel to the scene. The bodies were evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police deployed additional tactical teams to the area, instructing them to “decisively deal with the suspected bandits operating in the area.”
CP Bello also held meetings with local residents, urging them to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely information to help prevent further attacks. “We need your assistance,” he appealed, “to ensure prompt responses to such incidents in the future.”
This latest attack highlights the escalating insecurity in Kebbi State, where terrorist activities have become a significant threat. Just a week earlier, members of the same group killed two police officers in a separate incident.
Local communities have expressed concerns over the increasing violence, calling on the government to enhance security measures and protect residents and critical infrastructure.
