In a statement released on Thursday, Daso said, “At about 12:10 a.m., unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade Nganzai Police Division. Gallant officers on duty repelled the terrorists after a series of gun battles.”
The attackers reportedly launched hand grenades during the confrontation, fatally injuring two officers. “The terrorists threw hand grenades, which unfortunately landed on a shelter tent behind the division, fatally wounding two officers,” Daso explained.

During the visit, Lawal oversaw the recovery of explosives left behind by the terrorists. “Two hand grenades were recovered by the EOD-CBRN Base 13, Maiduguri,” the statement confirmed. The bodies of the deceased officers have been taken to the State General Hospital in Maiduguri.
In his address, Lawal reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Borno State.
The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, where Boko Haram insurgents have continued to target both civilian and security facilities. The bravery of the officers who repelled the attackers has been widely commended.
“The resilience and commitment of our officers in the face of such threats are commendable,” said ASP Daso. “We remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard lives and property across the state.”
As the state mourns the loss of these officers, authorities have vowed to intensify efforts to curb the activities of insurgents and protect communities from further attacks.
