A devastating road accident in Kano, Nigeria, has resulted in the deaths of 25 people and left several others injured. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the incident on Monday.
The accident occurred at Dangwaro International Market on the outskirts of Kano city. The victims, who were traveling from Maiduguri to the southern part of Nigeria, were loaded in a trailer alongside cows. The trailer, an IVECO with registration number XA 311 ZB, collided with another vehicle and somersaulted multiple times.
“We received a call at about 3:15 am on July 1, 2024. Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and a vehicle to the scene at 3:30 am to rescue the victims,” Abdullahi stated.

He explained that the accident was caused by excessive speed, dangerous driving, and overloading, which led to a loss of control. During the rescue operation, FRSC personnel recovered six motorcycles, ten mobile phones, goats and rams, maize, and N400,000 in cash. All recovered items were handed over to the police.
The victims were immediately taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital Kano for urgent medical attention.
“The doctors on duty confirmed 25 of the victims dead,” Abdullahi said.
He warned motorists against the unsafe practice of transporting animals and goods alongside human beings, emphasizing the dangers of such actions.
This tragic incident follows another accident on Friday in Kano, where 14 worshippers were killed after a trailer rammed into them at a Juma’at mosque in the Kura local government area.
