Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have made history by winning the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title for the fifth time in a row.
On Sunday, D’Tigress defeated Mali 78-64 in a tough final match at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
With this victory, the Nigerian team also earned an automatic ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
The match started with Mali leading the first quarter 26-21, but D’Tigress fought back and tied the game 41-41 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Nigerian team stepped up their game and took control, finishing the quarter ahead 61-56. They continued their strong performance in the final quarter, limiting Mali to just eight points and finishing with a 14-point win.
The team has now won a total of seven Women’s AfroBasket titles and have remained unbeaten in the tournament for over ten years.
D’Tigress had earlier reached the final by beating Senegal 75-68 in the semi-final on Saturday.
