The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that nationwide voter registration will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, ahead of the upcoming general elections.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, INEC said that online pre-registration will begin on August 18 through the portal cvr.inecnigeria.org.
Physical (in-person) registration will follow a week later, starting on Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and other designated centres across the country. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.

INEC encouraged all eligible Nigerians, especially those who just turned 18 or missed earlier registration exercises, to take part.
“This exercise is for Nigerians who have attained voting age or those who were unable to register in previous exercises,” the Commission said.
The Commission also reminded Nigerians that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is not only for new voters. It also allows registered voters to update their details, such as transferring their registration to a new location, replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correcting personal information like names and dates of birth.
INEC assured the public of its commitment to a transparent and inclusive registration process.
“Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right. We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive,” the statement read.
Nigerians are advised to register early to avoid last-minute rush and ensure they can vote in the upcoming elections.
