The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Hon. Edward Masha, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is no longer connected to the people at the grassroots, even as his party gains more strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
Masha made this known while addressing recent defections from the PDP, saying the ruling party is spreading false stories to create confusion, especially in Southern Kaduna.
“When Senator Danjuma La’ah left, who followed him? His top aide for eight years didn’t go with him. If your closest aides don’t follow you, then who are you leading?” Masha asked.
He said defections from the PDP have not weakened the party but instead created room for stronger, more committed members to join.
“Some want to join us but feel blocked by certain individuals. When those people leave, others quickly come in,” he said.
Masha accused some former members of leaving out of selfishness, not because of principles.
“Some left because zoning didn’t favour them. Others knew they wouldn’t get tickets in the PDP. Some even have EFCC cases and are looking for safe landing,” he claimed.

The PDP chairman also raised doubts about the credibility of recent local government elections held by the APC government in the state.
“Where in the world have you heard that results for 23 local government chairmen and 255 councillors were announced in just 57 seconds? Even reading the names and votes would take longer,” he said.
He accused the APC government of poor governance, saying it was full of lies and had only met eight times in more than two years.
“What kind of governance is that? It’s just propaganda, lies, and deceit,” he said.
When asked if the PDP can challenge the APC in 2027, Masha responded with confidence.
“We are battle-ready! Even when APC was in charge, we won three senatorial seats and 10 out of 16 House of Representatives seats in 2023. What’s so special about this current government?” he said.
He dismissed any talk of joining a coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other party, saying it is not yet time for such discussions.
“We won’t build a vehicle with deflated tires. Our strength is greater than any individual. We move as a party, not as individuals,” he said.
Masha, who also leads the Forum of PDP Chairmen from the 19 Northern States, insisted that the PDP remains focused and strong.
“We’re not in a hurry. With our capacity and bargaining power, we are simply being calculative,” he said.
