Nigerian rapper MI Abaga has revealed why he didn’t get married early, saying he needed time to grow and be ready for a serious relationship.
In an interview on the Jay On Air Podcast, MI said he started feeling regret at age 37, especially when he saw his friends who married early, now raising teenagers.
“I felt a little bad about being unmarried when I was 37 because my friends who got married at 25 or 26 now have 14-year-old kids. Some of them have kids going off to college. Jesse (my brother) has a 21-year-old child, and I don’t have any kids yet. So you miss out on some of that,” he said.

Despite these feelings, MI said things changed for him when he met his wife shortly before he turned 40. He had just ended a previous relationship and realized he was finally ready.
“When you’re not ready, you’re not ready. Everybody’s timeline is different, and that’s something people forget today. I met my wife when I was about 40. She was there at my 40th birthday, and I asked her to marry me. We got married when I was 41,” he said.
The rapper also reflected on his past relationships and admitted he made mistakes due to his lack of maturity.
“I feel sad when I think about how I was in my former relationships. I met a lot of kind women who supported me. I just wasn’t mature, and I was stubborn,” MI said.
