The All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold a major meeting on July 24 to decide who will lead the party after Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje stepped down as National Chairman.
Ganduje resigned on Friday, citing health issues. He had earlier met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Following his exit, the party’s Deputy Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, was named Acting National Chairman.
The APC’s Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, confirmed the date of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting after the National Working Committee (NWC) met on Monday.
Fuanter said, “The National Executive Committee is the highest body of the party. Whatever decision we take now, including the endorsement of the acting chairman, must be approved by the NEC.”
He added, “If the NEC wants a new chairman to be nominated, that nomination will be accepted and then finalized at the national convention.”
Fuanter explained that the NWC accepted Ganduje’s resignation and wished him a speedy recovery.
“Our chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, resigned on health grounds. The NWC accepted his resignation and prayed for his quick recovery,” Fuanter said.
He said Dalori was officially endorsed by the NWC as acting chairman.

“In line with our party’s constitution, Dalori has now taken over in an acting capacity,” he said.
Speaking during the meeting, Dalori promised to unite the party and strengthen its base across the country.
“My appointment is not a personal victory. It is a responsibility I take seriously. We must focus on unity, deliver good governance, and reconnect with our grassroots as we prepare for the 2027 elections,” he said.
Dalori also pledged full support for President Tinubu’s administration.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan. It is already bringing change to our economy, security, and national unity. We will continue to support the President with full loyalty,” he said.
He urged party members to avoid division during this transition.
“We must not allow this leadership change to break our unity. Let us stay focused on what brings us together — our belief in Nigeria and in the APC,” Dalori said.
APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru formally presented Ganduje’s resignation to the NWC and confirmed Dalori’s temporary appointment.
Basiru said, “I presented the resignation letter of Dr. Ganduje to the NWC. A motion to accept it was moved and approved. In line with our constitution, Dalori has now taken over until the NEC meets.”
The APC also discussed preparations for upcoming by-elections. Fuanter said plans are in progress to ensure victory for the party’s candidates in areas where lawmakers have died or resigned.
“We are ready for the by-elections. We are also planning for our party congresses at all levels and will share the full schedule soon,”
he said.
The July 24 NEC meeting will be held at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
