Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has said that beginning her music career in her 30s turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
In a recent interview with Afrobeats Intelligence, Tiwa shared that starting later in life gave her time to understand herself before facing the pressures of fame and success. She said this helped her stay grounded in the fast-paced music industry.
Tiwa said, “My first single came out when I was already in my 30s. At that point, I wasn’t a kid anymore, so I wasn’t easily moved by fame or money. I had already built a strong foundation as a person.”

Tiwa explained that watching others rise and fall in the music industry taught her to be focused and intentional.
“When my time came, I knew it could all be over in a year or two. So I was very serious about making my career last,” she said.
She also joked about how she once thought about lying about her age.
“At the time, I didn’t think starting late was a good thing. I should have lied and said I was 22. You would have believed it!” she said with a laugh.
Despite entering the spotlight later than most, Tiwa Savage has built a successful music career, becoming one of the leading voices in Afrobeats. Her story shows that success can come at any age—as long as you stay true to yourself.
