Police in Kaduna have confirmed that the man who caused a brief disruption during President Bola Tinubu’s speech on Thursday is a mentally ill supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The man, identified as Umar Mohammed, is from Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna, according to a statement released on Friday by the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, Mansir Hassan.
Hassan said, “He was born with psychiatric disorders; he is of unsound mind.”
He also added that Umar is “an ardent supporter of Mr. President and the governor according to our findings.”

The incident occurred at a public event in Kaduna, where President Tinubu was speaking. A video from the event showed the president freezing mid-sentence as security agents rushed to stop a man trying to get too close to the stage.
Mr Hassan explained that Umar was allowed into the venue like other APC supporters.
“Mohammed was screened and admitted into the stadium as an APC supporter, wearing the standard campaign T-shirt and carrying banners bearing the images of the President and the governor,” he said.
The police said Umar acted out of “anxiety and emotional excitement,” adding that he had always dreamed of meeting President Tinubu and the governor.
Although the situation caused a brief scare, security operatives quickly controlled it, and President Tinubu continued his speech without further issues.
The police assured the public that there was no serious threat and that the matter had been handled appropriately.
