A female suicide bomber has killed 12 people and injured 18 others in an attack at a fish market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Borno State Police Command confirmed the attack happened on Friday night, June 20, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. at a crowded section of the market. The attacker had an explosive device strapped to her body, which she detonated among unsuspecting civilians.
Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said in a statement on Saturday:
“A suicide bomb attack occurred at fish market area in Konduga town, Borno State where a female suicide bomber, who had an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) strapped to her body, infiltrated a crowd of unsuspecting civilians and detonated the device, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives and multiple injuries,” Daso

He added that as of Saturday afternoon, 12 people had died and 18 were seriously injured.
Emergency response teams made up of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, bomb disposal units (EOD-CBRN), and other security agencies quickly moved to the scene to prevent further damage and assist victims.
“The injured victims have been taken to hospital for medical treatment while sensitization on Explosive Risk Ordnance is ongoing,” Daso said.
The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, expressed deep sorrow over the attack and offered his condolences to the victims’ families.
“The CP urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and security conscious, and to promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest security agency,” Daso added.
The police have begun investigations and promised to share more updates as they become available.
