All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State are blaming each other after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 15 former lawmakers.

The former legislators, including ex-Speaker Moses Thomas Sule, were arrested on June 17, 2025. The EFCC accused them of money laundering and breaking the rules on how public contracts are awarded.

The arrested lawmakers currently work as liaison officers for Governor Caleb Mutfwang in their various constituencies. Other arrested lawmakers include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Philip Gwom, Timothy Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.

The PDP reacted strongly, accusing the APC of using the EFCC to weaken the opposition before the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by PDP State Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande, the party said, “These arrests are a political witch-hunt by some APC leaders who are using the EFCC to intimidate our members.”

The PDP said the move was meant to damage its image and the administration of Governor Mutfwang.

“Our members are being paraded like common criminals in a clear attempt to silence the opposition,” the party added.

The PDP said it remained committed to justice and fairness and warned against using state institutions for political purposes.

“The misuse of institutions like the EFCC threatens democracy and the rights of citizens,” the statement said.

But the APC denied the accusations. The party’s State Chairman, Rufus Bature, said the PDP’s claims were false.

“The allegations by the PDP are a figment of their imagination. As a party, we never discussed the issue, and we are not involved in the arrests. The EFCC is only doing its normal job, and we cannot interfere,” Bature said.

The EFCC has not yet released further details about the investigation.
