The Nigerian military has bombed a new camp of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Baikee Forest, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, seriously injuring several fighters, including their top leader, Abu Moussab al-Barnawi.
The airstrikes took place on June 13 as part of Operation KALACHEN WUTA, which is being carried out by the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai. The operation targeted ISWAP fighters who were gathering in the Izge–Pridang–Baikee forest area to plan attacks on nearby communities, including Izge town.
According to PR Nigeria, the airstrikes were supervised by the Theatre Commander, Major-General Abdulsalam Abubakar, and carried out by the Air Component Commander, Air Commodore UU Idris.
Military jets launched several precise attacks on the terrorist camp, killing many fighters and destroying their supplies. The Nigerian military said the strikes also damaged ISWAP’s communication and transport equipment.

One of the most significant outcomes of the attack was the injury of ISWAP’s leader, Abu Moussab al-Barnawi. Reports say he suffered serious wounds to his face and arms. His current condition is unknown, and it is unclear whether he is still able to lead the group.
A post-strike assessment confirmed that the operation caused heavy damage to the insurgents, both in terms of human losses and equipment destruction.
The Nigerian military continues to carry out operations in Borno State and other parts of the North-East and North-West to fight terrorism and banditry. However, despite these efforts, insurgents still pose a threat to the safety of communities in the region.
Officials say they remain committed to wiping out all terrorist threats.
