Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent killings in Eha-Amufu, Enugu State. He described the attack on farmers as “heartbreaking” and urged the government to act quickly to protect rural communities.
At least seven people were killed and two others went missing on Sunday when suspected armed herdsmen invaded Ikpakpara village in Agu-Amede Autonomous Community, Eha-Amufu, in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. The attack happened around 4:30 p.m. and left residents terrified and mourning.
Speaking on Tuesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi said the country must stop ignoring these violent attacks on innocent people.
Obi wrote, “My heart breaks for the Eha-Amufu people, for the grieving families, and for those still searching for their missing loved ones. These killings must stop. We cannot keep watching communities bleed without justice or protection.”
He called on the government to find lasting solutions to the frequent violence in Eha-Amufu and similar areas.
“We cannot continue to allow our farmers to be afraid of going back to their farms. These communities deserve not only our compassion but also real and immediate security intervention,” Obi said.
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH that the attackers were dropped from helicopters and that the aircraft hovered over the area while the killings took place.

A resident, Osita Ogenyi said, “Currently, there’s uncertainty in my community. Armed Fulani herdsmen invaded the Agu-Amede community on Sunday evening. They killed seven people, we have recovered their bodies in a savagery manner, and two are still missing.”
The attack has deepened fears in the region, where similar invasions have taken place in recent years.
Obi, who has long advocated for people-focused leadership, said protecting farmers and rural dwellers should be a top priority for any serious government.
“To the people of Eha-Amufu: You are not alone. I offer my heartfelt condolences to your community, and I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace. May peace and security return to your land, ” he said.
