Former Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has accused politicians defecting from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of seeking forgiveness, not because they believe in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. Dalung made the remarks in Abuja, where he described the defectors as “sinners” looking for redemption.
Dalung disagreed with claims that politicians were joining the APC due to the party’s performance.
“Rather, they are sinners, who are seeking forgiveness for their numerous sins,” Dalung said.
He also referenced former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who has been quoted as saying that corrupt politicians can be forgiven once they join the APC, regardless of the severity of their actions. Although Oshiomhole has denied making such a statement, it continues to be used by some politicians.
Dalung added, “These are people who have committed heinous crimes against the Nigerian people and they are jumping into the APC ship for the forgiveness of their sins. Not that they believe in Tinubu, no; they do not.”
Dalung also warned that the influx of these politicians could cause future problems within the ruling party.
He said, “There is no value added to Tinubu except that he has compounded the situation in his party, and there will be an implosion.”

In his comments about the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dalung dismissed concerns that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s entrance into the party could threaten Prince Adewole Adebayo’s 2027 presidential ambitions.
Dalung praised Adebayo for his continued media campaign against what he called the “failed and unpopular policies” of the current government.
He described Adebayo as a key figure in Nigerian politics, saying, “So, Nigerians are very conversant with Adebayo’s voice, charisma, and leadership qualities.”
Dalung emphasized that Adebayo has done more to promote the SDP than anyone else, ranking him second only to the late Chief MKO Abiola.
“Nobody has promoted the SDP in Nigeria like Adebayo. He is a patriot who did not join politics for himself; he has surrendered the rest of his life to the service of humanity,” Dalung said.
Dalung’s comments reflect his concerns over the shifting political landscape and his support for Adebayo’s leadership in the SDP.
