Nigerian music star Rema has praised Afrobeats legend D’banj for paving the way for young artists like him to succeed in the United Kingdom and around the world.
Rema made this statement during his sold-out concert at the O2 Arena in London on Sunday. While bringing D’banj on stage, Rema gave an emotional tribute, thanking him for helping to push Afrobeats to international fame.
“First of all, I want to appreciate you for opening the doors. We [the new generational artists] do not do it alone,” Rema said to D’banj.

He praised D’banj’s 2012 global hit “Oliver Twist”, which became the first Nigerian song to enter the top 10 on the UK official chart. Rema said that achievement made it easier for others, including himself, to succeed in the UK music scene.
“You were one of the first ones to bring Afrobeats to the UK. You and Don Jazzy held it down. Y’all opened that door,” he added.
Rema did not hold back in showing how much D’banj’s career inspired him.
“I appreciate you for life. I love you from the bottom of my heart. If you never existed, I would have never existed,” Rema said.
Fans at the concert cheered loudly as the two stars shared the stage, celebrating the past and present of Afrobeats.
