Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has rejected the recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, saying such support does not guarantee election success.
Ndume shared his view during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. He reminded Nigerians that former President Goodluck Jonathan received a similar endorsement in 2015 but still lost the election.
“Jonathan had 22 governors then endorsing him like was done now. And what happened? Jonathan lost woefully. A lot of money was spent. Even the election was shifted but we are not learning our lessons. I pity Mr President,” Ndume said.

On May 22, 2025, 22 governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. Ndume, a long-serving APC senator, said he does not support that move.
“I was there, but that was not why I was there. I came for a summit. When I realised it was not a summit and they started a voice vote to endorse the President, I just left,” he explained.
He added, “That doesn’t mean I’m not an APC member. The majority had its way, but some of us felt it was not right.”
Ndume said Nigeria is facing serious problems, and people are losing faith in the government.
“Nigerians cannot see any hope, they are doubting the Renewed Hope,” he said, referring to Tinubu’s campaign slogan.
He also said politicians may switch parties, but voters don’t follow them. “Politicians are decamping, but the people who are the voters are not decamping,” he warned.
Ndume urged the President and the ruling party to learn from past mistakes and focus on solving the country’s problems instead of relying on political endorsements.
