Trump Ends Ties with Elon Musk, Warns Against Supporting Democrats

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk

Former U.S. President Donald Trump says his relationship with billionaire Elon Musk is over and has warned of “serious consequences” if Musk supports Democrats running against Republicans.

In a phone interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump said, “I would assume so, yeah,” when asked if his relationship with Musk had ended. “I have no intention of speaking to him,” he added.

Trump’s warning came after Musk called his new tax and spending bill a “disgusting abomination.” The Tesla and SpaceX boss also said America needs a new political party “to represent the 80 percent in the middle!”

Although Trump didn’t say exactly what the consequences would be, he confirmed he had no plans—at least for now—to cancel U.S. government contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX and Starlink.

Their public fallout started earlier in the week and quickly turned into a war of words online. Musk even deleted some of his posts attacking Trump, including one that said the president should be impeached and replaced by Vice President JD Vance.

Meanwhile, JD Vance said in a podcast interview that Musk’s attacks were a “huge mistake.” He said, “I’m always going to be loyal to the president… I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold. Maybe that’s not possible now because he’s gone so nuclear. But I hope it is.”

Trump remains confident his bill will pass in Congress by July 4. “People that were going to vote for it are now enthusiastically going to vote for it,” he said.

The bill, which narrowly passed in the House, is now with the Senate. Some Republicans are concerned because analysts say it would add $2.4 trillion to the U.S. debt over the next 10 years.

Neither Musk nor the White House has commented on the latest developments.
