The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has warned farmers, herders, and nearby residents in Kaduna to avoid its open range area from Monday, June 10 to Wednesday, June 12, due to a military shooting exercise.
The NDA’s spokesperson, Major Mohammad Maidawa, gave the warning in a statement on Sunday. He said the academy would carry out a “Range Classification Exercise” to train new cadets with live ammunition.
“This exercise is crucial for enhancing the firing skills and overall operational readiness of the cadets. We kindly request that all locals refrain from entering this area to ensure their safety and to allow the cadets to conduct their training without interruptions,” Maidawa said.
The training is part of the preparation for cadets of the Direct Short Service Course 33 and Branch Commission 2/2025 of the Nigerian Air Force.
Major Maidawa also stressed that it is dangerous and illegal to enter the open range area while the exercise is ongoing.

“The NDA strongly advises all individuals, especially those engaged in agricultural and pastoral activities, to keep away from the open range area during the specified dates,” he said.
He added that the safety of both the cadets and local residents is very important to the academy and thanked the public for their cooperation.
“The NDA remains committed to maintaining open lines of communication with the public and values the support of the local community in our training endeavours,” Maidawa said.
