Gunmen attacked the Efab Global Estate in the Idu Industrial Area of Abuja early Wednesday morning, injuring five security guards and robbing residents of cash and valuables.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men, believed to be part of an organized criminal group, entered the estate in large numbers and began shooting into the air to cause panic.
“They were over 20 in number. They overpowered our security guards and used machetes to injure five of them. They broke into at least six houses and took money, mobile phones, jewellery, and even forced some people to transfer money under pressure,” a resident told our reporter.

A message from the estate’s security committee confirmed that around 40 armed men carried out the attack in a well-planned operation.
“In a coordinated operation, about 40 armed individuals linked to an organized criminal group infiltrated the Efab Global Estate in Idu,” the statement read. “They shot randomly to begin their operation, which caused panic and confusion among residents.”
The committee also said residents did not contact the police immediately because of fear and confusion. Police were alerted around 4:00 a.m. and arrived later at the scene.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents in private estates across the city.
