Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso to become their next head coach, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Alonso, who is currently the manager of German club Bayer Leverkusen, has signed a three-year contract with Real Madrid that will last until 2028.
“Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go! Story confirmed and deal sealed for Xabi as new manager until 2028,” Romano announced on Monday on X (formerly Twitter).
The Spanish club is preparing for Alonso to begin his role during the FIFA Club World Cup. Real Madrid is expected to participate in the tournament as Champions League winners.

Romano added, “Staff sorted, contract in place and three-year deal for Alonso with Real planning for him to start at FIFA Club World Cup.”
Alonso’s arrival will bring an end to Carlo Ancelotti’s time as head coach. Ancelotti, who helped Real Madrid win several major trophies, is expected to leave the club in the coming weeks.
“Ancelotti farewell soon, then Xabi era,” Romano concluded.
This marks a new chapter for Real Madrid as they hand leadership to one of their former players.
