Gunmen killed at least six people during an evening attack on May 4, 2025, in Kakuruk village, Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The victims included 44-year-old Mr. Nyam Davou, 40-year-old Mrs. Kande Thoma, and her 6-month-old baby. Four others, including a 7-year-old girl and three women, sustained injuries.
The National President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Early warning signals and alerts about the influx of suspected bandits in the guise of Fulani were sent to appropriate authorities. Yet, the attackers continue to strike, taking advantage of inadequate security manpower.”
Dalyop described the killings as part of ongoing terror attacks targeting vulnerable communities.
“These attacks spare no one — not even women or little children,” he said.
The BYM, in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Bature Adazaram, condemned the killings and accused Fulani militants of carrying out the attack. The group warned that the violence was part of a plan to grab land and intimidate local residents.
They urged security forces to take stronger action to stop further violence.
“We call on Operation Safe Haven, the Police, and DSS to use maximum force to neutralise the danger in crisis-prone areas,” the statement read.
They also demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Council, Stephen Pwajok Gyang, also condemned the attack.
“This resurgence of violence is heartbreaking. We are working to promote peace, and this kind of tragedy pulls us back,” he said during a visit to victims at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital.
He praised security forces and local vigilantes for their efforts but called on them to be more proactive.
“We must break the cycle of violence. I call on everyone, security agents, community leaders, and residents, to join hands in securing our communities,” he added.
At the burial of three victims, Council Secretary Joshua Chong, who represented the chairman, expressed sympathy to the grieving families and urged security agencies to find and punish the attackers.
The traditional ruler of Gashish, Da Prof. Nuhu Gwom Gwok, also lamented the continued killings. He appealed to security agencies to act swiftly to prevent more bloodshed.
