Lionel Messi scored his 859th career goal on Saturday night as Inter Miami beat the New York Red Bulls 4–1 at Chase Stadium, ending their three-game losing streak.
The victory gives Inter Miami 21 points from 10 games and keeps them with just one loss in the current MLS season.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the milestone on his X handle, writing, “Leo Messi scores for Inter Miami now reaching 63 G/A in 53 games for the MLS side. 859 career goals so far.”
The match started fast, with Fafa Picault scoring in the 9th minute on a volley. Defender Marcelo Weigandt added a second goal in the 33rd minute after a long VAR check, and Luis Suárez scored his third goal of the season in the 39th minute.
Messi added the fourth goal in the 67th minute with a classy volley that sealed the win for the Florida-based team.

The Red Bulls responded with a 43rd-minute header from Mohammed Sofo, but it was not enough to stop Inter Miami’s dominance.
Head coach Javier Mascherano praised his players for their effort and sharpness during the match.
“It was a very physically demanding game – we needed it,” Mascherano said after the match. “It was important to get back to a good feeling. In the first half, we were clinical in front of goal, something we lacked in previous matches. In the second half, we tried to control possession more and be less direct.”
He added, “At the end of the first half, we lost control of the ball and didn’t want to give them momentum.”
The win gives Miami a much-needed confidence boost as they continue their MLS campaign.
