The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Joseph Babari, who was allegedly paid to fight in Plateau State. Police also recovered a locally made automatic rifle, live ammunition, and charms from him.
Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi announced the arrest in a statement on Saturday. He said the police caught Babari around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday during a stop-and-search operation near the Gombe-Taraba border.
Abdullahi said, “The suspect confessed he was hired by a man known as Isah to fight in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State for two months. He claimed he was paid N180,000 for the job.”

According to the police, Babari was returning to Karim Lamido in Taraba State after completing the job when he was caught by officers from the Pero-Chonge Division in Shongom LGA.
Police said they found him with an illegal automatic rifle, eight rounds of live ammunition, a black vest, and some charms.
“The suspect is now in custody along with the recovered items,” Abdullahi said,
Adding that further investigations are ongoing to find out where the weapon came from and how it was meant to be used.
The police reassured the public that they remain committed to keeping the state peaceful and stopping the spread of illegal weapons.
They also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
