The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a foreigner, Elie Bitar, wanted for his role in a cryptocurrency fraud linked to the online trading platform, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX).
In an official notice released by the EFCC, Bitar, aged 41, is accused of defrauding many Nigerians through CBEX, a platform that promised high returns from crypto investments but later collapsed.
“The public is hereby notified that ELIE BITAR, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud allegedly perpetrated on an online trading platform called Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX),” the statement read.
The commission said Bitar’s last known address is in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, and urged the public to help locate him. Anyone with useful information about his whereabouts is asked to contact any EFCC zonal office across the country, call 08093322644, or email info@efcc.gov.ng.

CBEX gained attention during the rise in cryptocurrency interest in Nigeria. It attracted thousands of investors by promising quick and massive profits. However, the platform later stopped working, and many users were unable to withdraw their funds.
According to the EFCC, investigations show that Bitar was involved in suspicious transactions on the platform. Several other suspects have already been arrested.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, who signed the bulletin, said the agency remains committed to tracking and arresting individuals who use fraudulent investment platforms to cheat Nigerians.
