The newly elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah, has accused Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, of leading thugs to disrupt his inauguration ceremony in Abuja and threatening to kill him.
In a phone call to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, Isah alleged that Seyi Tinubu arrived at The Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro with armed men to stop the inauguration, which was scheduled for 11 a.m.
Isah claimed, “At The Wells Carlton, Seyi Tinubu and his thugs are around to scatter our inauguration. Seyi has just ordered for me to be assassinated after the plea to buy me with money failed.”
He further alleged that Seyi instructed the hotel management to shut down its operations, trapping guests and disrupting movement.

Isah said, “He has instructed the management to shut down everything. They have just informed me. He is in front of my hotel room now to murder me with his security. My life is under threat.”
An anonymous student leader described the incident as “deeply troubling and an attack on the democratic process within the student movement.”
“This is not just about Atiku Isah. It’s about protecting student leadership from elite interference and violence,” the student said.
The inauguration follows a tense NANS national convention held on February 27, 2025, where Isah emerged as president amid reports of factional disputes and external interference.
In anticipation of possible unrest, NANS had written to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on April 22 requesting security for the inauguration.
The letter, signed by Isah, stressed the need for a peaceful transition. “We wish to implore your office to avail us adequate security as we are set for official inauguration into office on the 29/04/2025,” the letter read.
NANS, the official student body for Nigerian students in higher institutions, says it remains committed to defending the rights and welfare of students and ensuring peaceful leadership transitions.
