A human rights group, The Critical Thinkers, has asked the coroner’s court to order a forensic check of the phone records of everyone who was with late singer Mohbad in the 48 hours before his death.
The group made the request in a statement by its spokesperson, Toby Bart, which was made available to PUNCH Metro on Sunday. They said there are inconsistencies in the testimonies being given during the ongoing inquest into Mohbad’s death.
Bart said, “We believe there are contradictions in the accounts from those close to Mohbad. We are calling on the court to order a proper analysis of their phone records to help find out the truth.”
The group also demanded that Curamed Hospital, where Mohbad was first taken for treatment, must appear before the court. They said the hospital’s testimony is very important.

According to Bart, Dr. Chigozie Iwuala from Perez Medicare Hospital told the coroner that Mohbad was brought in dead on September 12, 2023, and had likely been dead for over three hours before arrival. He added that the singer’s body had been doused with water, allegedly to reduce signs of death.
This statement does not match what Mohbad’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, said in an interview on TVC. She claimed that the singer died within 20 minutes of arriving at the hospital.
Bart said, “The CCTV footage, the doctor’s written report, and the fact that the body had already shown signs of death raise serious questions. Why are these details different from Wunmi’s account?”
He added that the only people who testified at the most recent hearing were Dr. Iwuala and Fiselis Esenbor, the driver who took Mohbad to his last show in Ikorodu. According to Esenbor, he received a phone call around noon on the day of Mohbad’s death, telling him the singer had died.
“The time of death is unclear. The stories don’t match. That’s why we need Curamed Hospital to speak up. What time exactly did Mohbad arrive? What treatment did they give? This information is key,” Bart said.
The group also noted that although the doctor who treated Mohbad at Curamed is no longer working there, the hospital must still provide its records and CCTV footage.
The next coroner’s court sitting is scheduled for April 25, 2025.
