Authorities in Kano State have arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, for allegedly l!cking the g3nitals of a goat, an incident that attracted anger and condemnation across Nigeria.
The arrest was carried out by the Kano State Hisbah Board on Tuesday after a video of the act went viral on TikTok. In the clip, Yakubu was seen allegedly licking the private parts of a goat while asking someone to record him.
According to Hisbah officials, Yakubu admitted in the video that he did the act just to become popular on social media.
“I did it to trend on social media and become famous,” he reportedly said in the video.
The video quickly spread online, causing outrage among viewers and concern within the local community. Residents of the area, shocked and upset by the footage, were reportedly on the verge of attacking Yakubu before a community leader stepped in and alerted Hisbah authorities.

Despite what was seen in the video, Yakubu gave a different story during questioning.
“I swear to Allah, I did not lick the goat’s genitals. I only put my mouth around the area,” he said.
“I have never done this kind of thing before. I am in my right senses. This is my first time, and I won’t repeat it,” he added.
The case has drawn strong criticism from religious and community leaders. Speaking to journalists, Sheikh Aminuddeen Abubakar, Deputy Commander-General of the Kano Hisbah Board, expressed deep disappointment over the incident.
“Sadly, a Muslim man will use his mouth to lick the genitalia of a goat, without regard to religious teachings and moral values,” Sheikh Aminuddeen said.
He blamed the suspect’s desire for quick fame on social media as a dangerous and growing trend among some youths.
“He’s only concerned about seeking dirty fame on social media. This is why we have ordered a psychiatric and drug evaluation on him to know his true state of mind,” he said.
Sheikh Aminuddeen also revealed that both the man and the goat would be medically examined to check for possible infections or health concerns.
“Yes, we will take the goat to a veterinary clinic and test it for any disease it might have contracted from the suspect. And then we will test the suspect too before we prosecute him,” he added.
The Hisbah official issued a strong warning to others who may be tempted to copy such behavior for online attention.
“Anybody caught bathing in dirt or ash or charcoal under the guise of seeking popularity will be arrested and severely dealt with,” he warned.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the influence of social media on young people and the dangerous lengths some are willing to go just to gain followers or go viral online.
