The Nigeria Police Force has promised to discipline some of its officers who were caught on camera collecting money from a Chinese national in a video that has gone viral on social media.
In a statement released on Friday by the police spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force condemned the conduct of the officers and stressed that their actions go against the core values of the Nigeria Police.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognizance of a disturbing video making the rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national,” Adejobi said.
He added, “The actions of the officers do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force. The Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards such unprofessional behaviour and all forms of misconduct that undermine public trust and confidence.”
The viral video shows a Chinese man giving out naira notes to a group of police officers who stood in a line, appearing to wait their turn. The video quickly sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and immediate action from the authorities.
Following the public outcry, the police confirmed that they have identified the officers involved and that disciplinary procedures have begun.
The statement said, “We have already identified the officers involved, and they are currently facing disciplinary action. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the integrity of the force is protected.”
The police also used the opportunity to issue a warning to the general public, including businesses and individuals, to avoid actions that could bring the image of the force into disrepute.
“Individuals and organisations are strongly advised to avoid any form of interaction or engagement that could lead to the tarnishing of the image of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi warned.

Social media users have shared mixed reactions to the video. While some commended the police for responding quickly and promising to take action, others expressed doubts, saying similar promises had been made in the past without any real consequences.
One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “This is not the first time we are seeing police officers collecting bribes, but nothing ever really happens. Let’s hope this time is different.”
Another user said, “It’s disgraceful. Police officers are supposed to protect citizens and enforce the law, not stand in line to collect bribes.”
The Nigeria Police Force has come under intense scrutiny in recent years over cases of misconduct and corruption among its ranks. Incidents like this have raised concerns about public trust in the police, especially as the country continues to battle crime and insecurity on several fronts.
By acting swiftly and making its disciplinary process transparent, the police hope to rebuild confidence and prove that no officer is above the law.
“We remain committed to upholding ethical standards, professionalism, and discipline within our ranks,” the police spokesman concluded.
