The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, is still in the dark about the real reason behind his political battle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, according to his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Jerry Omotsegunwa.
Omotsegunwa revealed on Sunday that Wike has not clearly stated why he is at odds with Fubara, despite the crisis that has engulfed the state since late 2023.
Omotsegunwa said in a telephone interview, “This crisis has dragged on for almost two years now, and nobody has told us what the actual problem is. The FCT Minister (Wike) has not told us anything that led to the crisis, and the governor too has not provided any clarity.”

Political Crisis Leads to Emergency Rule
The feud between Wike and Fubara took a dramatic turn on March 18, 2025, when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. This decision led to the suspension of Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly, escalating the crisis further.
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, recently suggested that the conflict between Wike and Fubara was over the sharing of state funds.
Amaechi, in an interview with DW, also condemned Tinubu’s emergency rule in Rivers, calling it unconstitutional.

Reacting to Amaechi’s claim, Omotsegunwa did not outrightly dismiss it but maintained that the true reason for the crisis remains unclear.
“I will not dispute Amaechi’s position, even though he has the right to his own opinion,” he said. “The other day, when they talked about impeaching the governor, he asked, ‘What is my offence?’ and the FCT Minister said the governor tried to destroy his structure and all. These matters put together, we’ve not been able to decipher.”
He added, “As much as I don’t want to say he has lied, I also say he has the right to his own opinion, and that is his personal opinion.”
