The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that corps members will start receiving a new monthly allowance of N77,000 from March 2025, following the federal government’s approval of the new national minimum wage.
Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General of the NYSC, made this announcement while addressing corps members at the Wuse and Garki Zonal Offices in Abuja. He reassured them that the government is committed to their welfare and urged them to remain dedicated to their service year.
Nafiu said, “With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the Scheme appreciate you.”
The increase from N33,000 to N77,000 aligns with the new minimum wage of N70,000, which President Bola Tinubu approved in July 2024. The adjustment follows a similar increase in 2019, when corps members’ allowances were raised from N19,800 to N33,000 after the minimum wage was increased to N30,000.
The NYSC confirmed that the new allowance was approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the commission stated that the approval was communicated in a letter dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its chairman, Ekpo Nta.
Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized that the welfare of corps members remains a top priority. He urged them to be calm, disciplined, and focused on their service to the nation.

He also praised the NYSC as a pillar of national unity, stressing that the scheme plays a vital role in integrating young graduates from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds across the country.
“The NYSC is not just about serving for one year,” he said. “It instills patriotism, discipline, leadership, and teamwork, which are essential for building a stronger Nigeria.”
Corps members welcomed the news of the allowance increase with excitement. Zaka Deborah Alheri, a corps member from the Garki Zone, spoke on behalf of her colleagues and expressed appreciation to the NYSC leadership for ensuring their welfare.
“We are grateful to the Director General for his commitment to ensuring that our increased allowance is paid on time,” she said.
The announcement brings relief to thousands of corps members across the country, many of whom had been eagerly awaiting the implementation of the new allowance. With the assurance from the NYSC leadership, corps members can now look forward to improved financial stability as they serve the nation.
