President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Mathew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.
The appointment, announced on Monday, also includes key officers for the newly established university. Tinubu named Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas as the Vice-Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as the Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as the Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as the University Librarian.
The President further appointed members of the university’s Governing Council, including Mr. Thomas Etuh from North Central, Chief Fabian Nwaora from South East, Prof. Femi Taiwo from South West, and Zarah Bukar from North East.
According to a statement from Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu selected the appointees based on their distinguished careers, leadership experience, and commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.

“President Tinubu implored them to use their collective expertise to position the university as a hub for academic excellence and research, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Onanuga stated.
He added that the President urged the newly appointed officers to provide visionary leadership and lay a strong foundation for the university as it prepares to admit its first set of students in September 2025.
The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, became a federal institution after the government acquired its assets. In February, Tinubu directed the Federal Government to take over the privately-owned university and convert it into a public institution.
The decision followed a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that ordered the final forfeiture of the university’s assets to the government.
