Police operatives have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Sani, for allegedly smuggling bullets hidden inside a palm oil container.
The police also captured a group of drug traffickers supplying hard drugs to criminals in Yobe State and dismantled an arms smuggling network.
According to a police statement on Tuesday, Sani was intercepted on December 23, 2024, along the Keffi-Abuja Expressway while attempting to transport 124 rounds of live ammunition of different calibres. The bullets were concealed in a five-litre container of palm oil to avoid detection.
She reportedly admitted that a man named Nasiru from Daura had given her the ammunition and instructed her to deliver it to Katsina State.
“We are investigating further to uncover the full network involved in this illegal arms trafficking,” said ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
In another operation on February 1, 2025, police officers arrested three suspects linked to a major drug syndicate in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The suspects, identified as 50-year-old Alhaji Usman Yahaya, 27-year-old Joseph Matthew, and 25-year-old Solomon Bala, were found transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other hard drugs.
“The drugs were meant for bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers operating in Yobe and neighbouring countries,” the police said.

Authorities believe drug supplies fuel criminal activities by keeping criminals active for long hours.
“We will not allow criminals to thrive by having easy access to drugs. Our operations will continue to target those behind this illegal trade,” Adejobi added.
On February 3, 2025, police also arrested three suspected arms dealers—Yusuf Dantani, 24; Usman Labaran, 32; and Musa Mohammed, 23—who were found with 10 AK-47 rifles.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to selling weapons and revealed that they had received almost N4 million for their last batch of guns.
“These weapons would have ended up in the hands of criminals, but we stopped them before they could do more harm,” the police stated.
The police urged Nigerians to assist in the fight against crime by reporting suspicious activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of citizens. We urge the public to support our efforts by providing timely and accurate information that can aid in crime prevention and detection,” Adejobi said.
