A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos has raised alarm over alleged threats from the scheme’s officials after she criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on social media.
The corps member, who shared her frustration in a now-viral TikTok video via the handle @talktoraye, broke down in tears as she lamented the increasing cost of goods in Nigeria. She called Tinubu’s government “terrible” and accused it of failing to address the rising prices of basic commodities.
She said., “If a lot of Nigerians come out and start speaking about what we are going through, maybe changes will be made in the government. I just want to say to our president, I don’t know if there is any other president that is as terrible as you, but you are such a terrible president.”
‘Prices Keep Rising Every Week’
The corps member explained how difficult it has been to survive on her NYSC allowance, saying she spends more on transportation than what the government pays her.
The lady said, “I went to the supermarket to buy foodstuffs, and everything has gone up again. Every single week, prices keep increasing. I want to know, what is the government doing about this increase?
“Why am I going to buy a crate of eggs, and I’m told it costs N6,500? It doesn’t make any sense that eggs would cost that much. I remember when eggs cost just N800.”
She also complained about the high cost of basic services, including electricity and security bills.

She lamented, “After I left the supermarket, I got home, and the security and NEPA bills have skyrocketed, doubling in price. It is insane. I can’t keep up with these bills. Every single penny I make, I am using it to pay bills. The crazy thing is, you want to go out with your friend, and Uber is N25,000. Why are things so expensive?”
Beyond the economic hardship, she also criticized the state of hygiene in Lagos.
“To make it worse, Lagos stinks. Everywhere smells. What is the government doing about the smell?” she questioned.
NYSC Officials Demand Video Removal
Barely 24 hours after her post went viral, the corps member claimed she started receiving phone calls from NYSC officials demanding that she take down the video and stop criticizing the government. In another video, she recorded a call from one official who allegedly scolded her.
“Are you normal?” the voice asked. “Keep quiet and bring down the video you posted.”
She revealed that multiple NYSC officials had called her, insisting that she must not insult the government and that she should delete the post.
“I have been receiving calls from different NYSC officials, all telling me to take down my video and stop talking about the government,” she said.
