The nurse who treated the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed how he developed complications shortly after she gave him an injection.
Testifying before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, said Mohbad started vomiting and later convulsed after she administered a tetanus shot.
“I was called to treat him on September 12, 2024, by one Ayobami Sodiq, also known as Spending,” Ogedengbe told the court.
She arrived at Mohbad’s Lekki home around 2:30 pm and observed a swollen cut on his right hand.
Reaction After Injection
She explained that she gave Mohbad a tetanus shot in his upper arm, and he soon developed goosebumps. His wife, Omowunmi, dismissed it as a “normal response” to injections.
Ogedengbe said she also gave him paracetamol instead of diclofenac due to his history of ulcers. Additionally, she administered a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone to treat a bacterial infection.
However, Mohbad soon showed signs of discomfort. “He got up to vomit after the ceftriaxone injection,” she said.
Emergency Response
Ogedengbe stated that when she noticed his reaction, she asked Omowunmi why she had not mentioned that Mohbad usually reacted that way to injections.
“Omowunmi took him to the bathroom and started pouring water on his head,” she narrated.
Realizing the situation was serious, Ogedengbe and Sodiq rushed to a pharmacy to buy medication for an allergic reaction. However, delays at the first pharmacy slowed them down.
“We finally got hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion at another pharmacy. But by the time we returned, Mohbad was already outside the house, and preparations were being made to take him to the hospital,” she recounted.

Death on Arrival
Due to traffic and the unavailability of a vehicle, Mohbad was taken to the hospital on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival.
The nurse recalled that when they reached the hospital, the medical personnel hesitated to attend to him at first, leading to some confusion. I’m
“His body was later taken back home around 8 pm, while we went to the Orchid Lekki Police Station to get a death certificate,” Ogedengbe said. The police later directed them to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah for further reports.
Legal Action
After cross-examinations by lawyers representing Mohbad’s family, his wife, and the state, the court adjourned the case to March 21, 2025, for further hearing.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions had previously stated that Ogedengbe and Sodiq would be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
However, the court had cleared popular singer Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, of any involvement in the case.
